These are Sahrat’s default rules. Where tables differ from one majlis to another, the difference is a table option, and every option is free.
Pool in Sahrat is 8-ball, one against one: pot your balls (solids or stripes) and then the black 8.
1Players
- Two players only, one against one.
2Table and balls
- 6 pockets: four in the corners and two in the middle.
- 15 numbered balls plus the cue ball.
- Solids are 1 to 7, stripes 9 to 15, and the black ball is the 8.
- The rack is broken from behind the head string, and the first player takes the break.
3Your turn
- The table is open after the break: the first ball you pot with a legal shot decides your group, solids or stripes.
- Pot one of your own balls: shoot again.
- Pot nothing, or only the opponent's balls: the turn passes, and the balls the opponent potted stay down.
- Only the 8 needs a called pocket. Every other ball counts in any pocket.
- The turn timer is 30 seconds, starting when the last shot has finished moving. When time runs out, the game plays the shot for you.
4A legal shot
- The cue ball must first hit one of your own balls. While the table is open, any ball. Once your group is cleared, only the 8.
- Then a ball must be potted, or any ball must touch a cushion.
- The 8 is not a legal first hit while the table is open and balls of either group are still up.
5Fouls
- The cue ball is potted.
- The cue ball hits nothing.
- The wrong ball is hit first.
- No ball touches a cushion after contact (and nothing is potted).
- The 8 is potted early or in the wrong pocket (this loses the game, see below).
- After any foul: your opponent places the cue ball anywhere on the table. If the cue ball was potted, it is placed by hand, not on a spot.
- A shot with a foul assigns no group, even if it potted a ball, and the balls it potted stay down.
6The 8
- Only the 8 is called: you must name the pocket before you shoot, and only once your group is cleared.
- On the break: if the 8 is potted it goes back on its spot, with no loss.
7Winning and losing
- You win: pot the 8 in the pocket you called after clearing your group, with a clean shot.
- You lose: pot the 8 early, in the wrong pocket, or together with a foul (such as the cue ball going in with it).
- A legal break (a ball is potted, or a ball touches a cushion) that pots a ball lets the breaker shoot again, with the table still open.
8Looks
- Cues, cloth and ball sets are looks only: the same aiming line, the same physics and the same results for every player.
- Every player starts with the Majlis cue and the green cloth.
